Theeradesa Lahari Vimuktha Vanitha Samithi, the coastal women’s committee against Drug Abuse is a strategic intervention in Capacity Building for Gender Equality in Development, Peace and Security. It is an initiative to thwart the increasing menace of drug abuse and alcohol in the coastal region especially among the fishermen community of Kollam. The committee not only endeavors to create awareness against this malady that is eating into the very innards of the fishermen community but also through the watchfulness of its 100 trained women volunteers works to stop public drinking and trafficking of drugs which otherwise happen openly in the beach.
