Training session on the prevention of suicides

Teen suicide is a growing health concern around the world and is the second-leading cause of death among youth. While the district of Kollam ranks highest in the incidence of suicides, the rising tide of adolescent suicides make the coastal area of Kollam the most vulnerable.

Towards intervening effectively in the issue of adolescent suicides, a training session was organised for the staff of FCDP and TMS. The first phase of training included the Screening Test Training and was held on 2nd October 2019 at the hall of district hospital, Kollam. Organised in collaboration with the District Mental Health and National Health Mission, the post-training activities will include a survey of on the mental health of adolescents, counselling camps and other follow-up programs.

The training sessions were conducted by Dr. Mini (Nodal Officer & Psychiatrist, District Mental Health Programme, Kollam), Dr. Harikumar (District Programme Manager, National Health Mission, Kollam), Ms. Anju G.R (Counsellor, DMHP), Ms. Ansi B Kairali (Counsellor, DMHP) and Mr. Mahesh Kumar PS (Counsellor, DMHP)
