All the economic activities are undertaken through the self help groups under FCDP & TMS. The fishermen community faces numerous problems related to poverty, illiteracy, lack of skills, lack of formal credit etc. These problems can be tackled with the collective efforts of the SHG members, thus, becoming a vehicle of change for the poor and marginalized, alleviating poverty and encouraging self-employment. SHGs have emerged as the most effective mechanism for the delivery of microfinance services to the poor.
At present there are over 220 SHG’. Over the years, a number of interventions have been made by FCDP and TMS through SHG members and leaders to promote better economic and living conditions and to root out social evils.
