Vandiperiyar (Kumali)

We had been receiving emergency requests from Vandiperiyar from a Tamil Muslim family who had acquaintances in Kollam. The tea garden workers here had fled to the hills as water from the Mullaperiyar dam flooded the inundated the area. A number of people were rescued by the army and were shifted to the camp at Kumali. But people who had not gone to the camps were helplessly left out and had nothing. All they had was washed away. On verifying the truth of their claims, we collected materials and left early in the morning (25th august 2018) by a bus. The journey took over four hours but we were happy to provide provisions, mats, buckets, clothes, blankets etc.
