Support to migrants under KISMAT project

Date : 8th June, 2020

BREADS’ KISMAT (Kerala Interstate Migrants Alliance for Transformation) project team members engaged with migrant workers during the COVID 19 lockdowns to solve various issues in 11 districts of Kerala. KISMAT worked very closely with the labour and police departments to make arrangements for the workers to travel their different native states in north India, conducted health camps and medical tests for those with symptoms of COVID 19, supplied groceries and food for those without resources, and access to community kitchens and shelter for those who were evacuated from their residences and camps by the owners. Many pending wage payments and wage theft issues were also resolved by the KISMAT team with the help of the police and labour department.
