Field work experience:
We, the social work trainees of Vimala College, Thrissur got an opportunity to work in accordance with Fishermen Community Developmental Programme (FCDP) and Teeradesha Mahila Society (TMS) as part of our second semester field work. FCDP and TMS are two sister organizations which work for the economic and social upliftment of the fisher folk in the coastal areas of kollam. They are undertaking many social welfare activities for the alleviation of fisher folk from the clutches of poverty and malnutrition, exploitation and diseases. During the placement we have had a very good exposure to community field work and other social development activities. FCDP enabled us to understand the structure and functions of the organization, participate in the daily activities and we have had meaningful interactions with the staff and community members. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Rev Fr. Joby Sebastian, Director of FCDP and other staff members for making our fieldwork worthwhile.

From: Kollam

University: NMIMS, Mumbai

I completed my schooling from Kollam after which I received a B. tech degree in Electronics and Communication from College of Engineering, Trivandrum. I have worked for over two years in Deloitte Consulting India Private Limited, a consulting firm. Currently, I am pursuing Masters in Business Administration from NMIMS, Mumbai. Internship Period: 3rd February to 23rd February 2014

Internship Project:
Evaluation of the micro credit program at FCDP and revamping the FCDP website.

Internship Experience:
FCDP, with its rich heritage of over 37 years, has made its foothold in four crucial spheres: education, health, social status and economic growth. It is this opportunity to work across different spheres that appealed to me and resulted in my choice to intern with the organization. Over the span of 3 weeks, I have had meaningful interactions with the members as well as been an active part of FCDP’s activities. Through this experience, I have been able to form a clear understanding of the organization’s micro credit program as well as evaluate the impact of its activities on the lives of the people. In addition, I was also able to support the redesign of the FCDP website. Overall, I believe that my experience in FCDP has been extremely fruitful and will definitely benefit me in my future endeavours.
