Award for ‘Blood for life’ campaign

The Don Bosco Team Covid under the banner of FCDP (Fishermen Community Development Programme, was awarded by the District Hospital Kollam for its meritorious service of blood donation at the time of the pandemic. Kollam District hospital Superintendent Dr Vasantha Das handed over the award to Fr Joby Sebastian (Director, FCDP & TMS) in the presence of Deputy superintendent Dr Ajitha, RMO Dr Aniroop , Bloodbank Medical officer Dr Mary Sanshya. The program was organised by DHS Blood Bank Kollam. Team covid initiated the campaign "blood for life", foreseeing the shortage that blood banks were likely to face following the covid vaccination. Rev. Fr. Joby Sebastian, Director, FCDP & TMS Kollam, received the award in the name of Don Bosco Team Covid. The award has come as a token of appreciation for the 25-member team of volunteers who have been working tirelessly to mitigate the suffering brought about by the covid pandemic through various relief activities as well as promoting measures to contain the pandemic.

World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is held on June 14 each year. The theme of World Blood Donor Day 2021 is “Give blood and keep the world-beating”. This year, a special focus is on the role of young people in ensuring a safe blood supply.

The objectives of WBDD 2021 is to thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation, promote the community values of blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion, encourage youth to embrace the humanitarian call to donate blood and inspire others to do the same and to celebrate the potential of youth as partners in promoting health.

We would like to call everyone who donated blood, superheroes because when you donate blood, you save a life and that is what superheroes do!
